An analysis that specifically shows what the pilot does when he flies, how he does it, and why. 20 chapters cover: The Flying Instinct, Wind Drift, Torque, The Turn, The Landing, The Working Speeds of an Airplane, etc. Written by a former test pilot for Cessna, it gives the student pilot a solid background in the art of flying and the instructor an excellent teaching tool. 384 pgs., 6"x 9", hardbound.   $24.95

L Birds: American Combat Liaison Aircraft of World War II

West with the Night

by Beryl Markham. One of my favorite books of all time!  The beautifully written story of a remarkable woman. Beryl Markham grew up in East Africa, apprenticed as a horse breeder, piloted passengers and supplies in a small plane to remote corners of Africa (flyng an Avro Avian), and became the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic from east to west. Much more than a pilot's memoir, this is a wise, funny, and inspiring exploration of a life well lived. 294 pgs., 5½"x 8¼", softbound. $12.95

All featured aircraft were built before 1955 and were powered by reciprocating engines. You'll find Aeroncas, Stinsons and more in this book. This is not a history, but a chronological photographic tribute to these planes. 140 pgs., 455 color photos, 8½"x 11", softbound.  $29.95

Wings of Yesteryear :The Golden Age of Private Aircraft

by Szurovy. During aviation’s formative years, every airplane maker believed they possessed the key to opening the world of flight. The years between the barnstorming thrills of the ‘20s and the dawn of worldwide mass transportation in the ‘40s produced some of the most stylish aircraft ever built. This nostalgic book examines vintage models from manufactures such as Curtiss, Beech, Stearman, Taylor-Piper, and Lockheed. They are depicted primarily through modern color photography that includes spectacular air-to-air shots of restored aircraft. 168 pgs., 75 color, 150 B&W illustrations, 10"x 10", hardbound.    $34.95
